METROPIA A journey through a oneiric megalopolis, where landmarks are vanishing in the memory of your dreams or nightmares.
A selection of 43 monochrome, squared photographs by Salvador Calaf.
Today, as never before, we mortals are producing enormous amounts of photographs that, in the majority of cases, will never leave the mobile they were taken with. Or at best, be uploaded to one of the so-called «social medias» where it will be consumed by an inconceivable amount of people in just a matter of seconds. They will rapidly reach a kind of immortality, until it is pushed down by the next news feed.
Metropia was a child of chance; it was my discovery of the truly remarkable potential of iPhone as a perfectly capable photographic tool, and the very popular social media, Instagram. Metropia was growing in narrative with each posting. It was fun! I made friends and discovered a great community of talented photographers.
Metropia has been my claim to produce photos with a mobile camera that can be used in printed media. Unfortunately, Metropia is no longer a project on Instagram because of my disagreeing with their TOS [Term of Service]. Ironically, Metropia now only exists in book format.
